Community Housing Development Corporation Pilots New Light-Duty Financing Assistance Program in Targeted Markets Program Provides Education and Enhances Access to Advanced Technology Vehicles for Residents in Disadvantaged Communities On November 4, 2015, Community Housing Development Corporation (CHDC) signed a grant agreement with the California Air Resources Board to administer the Light-Duty Financing Assistance in Disadvantaged Communities Pilot Project. This grant was awarded to CHDC based on its experience providing services to enable low- to moderate-income residents to gain better housing and financial stability, and establish car ownership. CHDC intends to provide financing for hybrid electric vehicles, plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, battery electric vehicles and fuel cell vehicles to individuals who reside in eligible zip codes. The organization also will provide education about the purchase and maintenance of advanced technology vehicles, using CHDC’s existing Ways to Work framework, which launched in Richmond on June 20, 2014. “Advanced technology vehicles are the cleanest vehicles around and we’re excited to educate our communities about the benefit of these vehicles, not just in money savings but also to the environment,” said Don Gilmore, Executive Director, Community Housing Development Corporation. “As an organization, we’re excited to see where alternative fuel technology can take us,” The Light-Duty Financing Assistance Program is made possible by the California Alternative and Renewable Fuel, Vehicle Technology, Clean Air, and Carbon Reduction Act of 2007 (Assembly Bill 118, Statutes of 2007, Chapter 750). AB 118 created the Air Quality Improvement Program, a voluntary incentive program administered by ARB to fund cleaner vehicle and equipment projects, air quality research and workforce training.
