Foreclosure Intervention and Loan Modification
If you or someone you know is struggling with mortgage payments, there are resources available to help you. Please call CHDC to find out what we can do at no cost to you. Because CHDC is part of the National Foreclosure Mitigation Counseling Program created by the United States Congress, federal law and regulations prevent us from charging fees to clients for this program.
Unfortunately, especially in lower income communities, foreclosure rescue scams are rampant. Be extra careful of anyone who advertises or offers you help, and please do not agree to pay any fees! Anyone who charges a fee is not part of the National Foreclosure Mitigation Counseling Program and therefore might not be qualified, experienced, or able to help you.
CHDC’s foreclosure mitigation staff is trained and certified according to standards of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). We offer counseling in both English and Spanish, and can arrange for other languages as needed. Over the past three years CHDC has educated and counseled thousands of people on this issue. The loan modification process can be complex and technical, and our counselors have the knowledge and experience to help you get the best possible resolution. Our staff is also fully trained in how to use the federal Making Home Affordable program. We will assess your eligibility and evaluate whether this program will be helpful in your case.
How the Program Works

- Attend the next scheduled workshop on Foreclosure Intervention and Mitigation, and bring your Intake Form with you. You can also email, mail, or bring your completed form with requested documents to our address listed below.Workshops are held in English on the second Thursday of every month. - As soon as possible, gather the following documents:
- The three most recent pay stubs for each person on your loan.
- Most recent federal tax return.
- Notice of default if you have received one.
- Your household budget (part of your Intake Form).
- Your hardship letter.
(A hardship letter is a written document in which you tell your story. Explain why you are having trouble with paying your current mortgage. What are the circumstances that have prompted you to seek help with loan modification?)
- Attach copies of these documents to your program application form. Please note: CHDC cannot accept original documents and we cannot make copies of your original documents at our office.
- Enclose a $20.00 non-refundable payment for each person on the home loan in cash, check or money order to cover the credit report processing fee.
- Bring your materials with you to the workshop. If you do not have all of them in time for the workshop, please bring as much as you can. You can also turn in your form and documents by sending or delivering them to:
