Welcome to Community Housing Development Corporation’s (CHDC) official website. This website will be utilized as a platform to keep you, our visiting audience, informed of the latest information, highlights, and achievements occurring within CHDC. Our mission is simple, it’s to “create and sustain vibrant communities that make a positive impact in people’s lives by providing high quality affordable housing and neighborhood services”. We do this because of our commitment to our community and to our residents. Our goal is to improve the lives of our residents, by furnishing them with the services necessary to evolve economically which gives them the ability to succeed in improving their lives.
This is an exciting year for our agency. We’ve just celebrated our 25th anniversary and we’ve beencommitted to affordable housing, economic development, education, health and other social issues. CHDC continues to step in to fill the gap in implementing needed programs in the communities we serve. This includes initiatives such as Developing affordable housing for low to moderate income families such as apartment rentals and homeownership, Healthy Richmond, Youth Build, Ways to Work, CC Match (IDA), State Attorney General Bay Area Foreclosure Recovery, Restoring Ownership Opportunities (Together ROOT), Home Equity Preservation Alliance (HEPA), Earn it Keep it, Spring Board (Business IDA), SparkPoint, Chevron Economic Revitalization Initiative and Love Your Block. We’re positioned to increase and expand services throughout the East Bay, particularly in Oakland and Vallejo. As our continued commitment to our community and beyond, our Ways to Work Program has been expanded to include the following counties, Solano, San Francisco, Santa Cruz and Santa Clara by providing advanced technology vehicles to qualified residents residing in targeted zip codes within these Counties. This pilot project was made possible by the California Climate Investment and our commitment to do our part to ensure our communities are free of pollutant vehicles.
Starting from North Richmond, to the greater Richmond area, to the greater Contra Costa area, to Oakland through Alameda County, to Vallejo and to Solano County, CHDC is increasing the opportunity for families to improve their living conditions. If you want to know what inspires us, it’s our residents, our communities and their commitment to work hard and set goals for their future. We’re inspired by our partners, who share in our commitment to offer opportunities that changes the lives of individuals and of communities as a whole. Yes, we are changing lives block by block and we’re grateful to you for inspiring us to do the work that we do.
As we continue in our pursuit of achieving the objectives set forth by ourselves, our community and partnering organizations, we look forward to sharing more of our successes with you through our website. Thank you for visiting our website and we hope you’ll take advantage of some of the much needed services we provide.
We look forward to connecting with you!

History of CHDC
CHDC was founded in 1990 by local leaders in North Richmond working to eliminate blight, improve housing opportunities for current and future residents, and create better economic conditions. It emerged from a housing committee of the North Richmond Neighborhood House, and received early support from several local faith based organizations.
Today, CHDC has added over 200 owner-occupied homes to the Richmond area along with street improvements, public services, senior and family rental housing; CHDC is a leader in the greater Richmond area in affordable homeownership and quality rental housing, and CHDC is recognized statewide for its asset-building programs for low income households.
